The Minstrel Boy to the war is gone In the ranks of death you will find him; His father's sword he hath girded on, And his wild harp slung behind him;" Land of Song!" said the warrior bard, "Tho' all the world betrays thee, One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard, One faithful harp shall praise thee!"
The Minstrel fell! But the foeman's chain Could not bring that proud soul under; The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again, For he tore its chords asunder; And said "No chains shall sully thee, Thou soul of love and brav'ry! Thy songs were made for the pure and free, They shall never sound in slavery!

| "I think-" Bruce breathed softly, carefully controlled as he undid the single button, unzipping him and pushing his hand down his pants, "I'm ready for something new"
"This isn't new," he breathed, head dropped back to Bruce's shoulder, eyes shut. But Speirs wasn't struggling anymore. The position was awkward, and his arm ached, but he didn't move. He had come for this, even if coming to Bruce was one of the things he wanted to be punished for.

| Right now, Speirs is fairly content. He has Lipton and a weird kind of companionship growing with Nix. Nix likes to hide in the bookstore with him, so they've been bonding. This, of course, will aid in Nix figuring out what the nature of Speirs' relationship with Lipton is, exactly. He still visits Stoshi, he's tolerating Zenon and seeing the other men at the functions she organizes. He's on edge, though, because he's fairly sure Stoshi is leaving soon and that unnerves him. He also feels strange about Bruce having disappeared from the village. They're the two people he connected with right off the bat (lol, bat), and he credits both of them with getting him onto the path where he is now. Stoshi, especially, he feels like is a big part of his foundation and he's scared of losing that. ( cut for length ) | |

| Maybe It Makes Him Nervous Too - newredshoesA short drabble in her longer BoB: Easy Daemons series. She's using Phillip Pullman's concept of Daemons, a representation of a person's soul that exists outside the body in animal form, to explore the Easy men and the relationships between them. There are a number of them already and they're all worth reading. The Green Grass Stretches - falseeyelashesAn exploration of Speirs and his relationship with his wife. It's wonderfully evocative and very nicely captures how the fandom tends to see Speirs. It's how I see him anyway (and maybe how I wish I could write him XD). His thought processes are really well articulated in this piece and the wife is a really interesting character. Breaking A Fever - big_bad_wolf at journalfen.net Speirs insists that Lipton take the bed when he's sick with Pneumonia. He sleeps on the floor, for most of the night anyway. It's fun. It's porny, and she does a very nice trick with a couple quotes from the book to wrap it all up. | |

| Any other PT and Speirs would have been running it with the men. But this wasn't really about the need for exercise or training, not really. He stood on the steps of the hotel, arms folded behind his back, sunglasses dark over his eyes and face expressionless. Heffron should be reappearing around the bend any moment now. This was his fifth loop of the village and if he wasn't dripping with sweat by the time he got back, he would run it again.
Speirs hadn't been expecting the soldier to comply. There was nothing making him do it. Speirs had held no gun to his head, although he'd been tempted. But apparently Babe had enough obedience left in him to know that an order given like the one Speirs had, it was meant to be order. Speirs wouldn't have shied away from physical violence, but he was pleased when Babe had glared before going to change into his PT gear.
Now it was just a matter of waiting.
